Boost Mobile has drafted some of the 1985 Chicago Bears to star in its first Super Bowl commercial ever with a reprise of the famous “Super Bowl Shuffle rap song and video.
Boost is a pre-paid mobile phone service, an industry that has typically shied away from high-end advertising like the Super Bowl. Pre-paid has historically been considered the low-end of the mobile market with a focus on young or poor credit customers. But all that is changing. Boost is one of the few company’s getting a boost from the poor economy. Cash-strapped customers are looking for cheaper alternatives, and Boost is looking to appeal to these customers during the Super Bowl.
The new Boost ad features former NFL players Jim McMahon, Willie Gault and Mike Singletary re-creating their famous “Super Bowl Shuffle” created by the Bears in 1985, just before they won Super Bowl XX. That film showed the teammates dancing to lyrics that included “We don’t mean to cause no trouble, we’re just doin’ the Super Bowl Shuffle.”
