Things We Love

September 10th, 2008 by Susan Crispell

Debbie loves Craig’s List – It’s a quick and easy — and CHEAP — way to advertise.  Another example of how a brilliant marketing idea and online reach is having a huge impact on traditional advertising vehicles.  Talk uses Craig’s List with great success to advertise employment opportunities.

Kirsty loves Time magazine – It has a healthy balance of quick-to-read and easy-to-digest news items and in depth profiles and features.  My favorite time of the week is when I can sit down with Time and learn everything I could ever hope to know about Sarah Palin and read about Damien Hirst’s latest freakish masterpiece.

Kelly loves
Coca Cola 007.  In an effort to deepen it’s brand name with its target audience of men in their 20s, Coca Cola has teamed up with Sony Entertainment to promote the premier of the new James Bond film, “Quantum of Solace”.  Along with the new name, the Coke bottle will include black, gun-barrel detailing and a picture of star Daniel Craig.  Don’t count on watching James Bond down a cold one in the film, however; he’ll most definitely be sticking to his martinis.

Kristen loves Smashbox Cosmetics – Their new line of foundations promises to make your face camera ready at all times, just like the movie stars. I am a huge fan of their makeup and the marketing of flawless, photo-finish formulas containing vitamin C and SPF has helped their line become an essential for myself as well as on the go women everywhere.

Lindsay loves USAA –I loved the “America United: in Support of Our Troops” program that aired on September 7, featuring a number of musicians and celebrities performing for troops and their families. USAA is an insurance and financial institution catering to federal employees and military service members. So, it’s no surprise that USAA would choose military support programs as part of the company’s cause related marketing. I salute their efforts!

Natalie loves http://www.gadgettrak.com/ – Good Morning America did a story about GadgetTrak this week. It’s a theft recovery system that allows you to track devices like cell phones and iPods. In the event that your cell phone is lost or stolen, GadgetTrak will send you a personal message with the current user’s name and location. Plus, they’ll even assist law enforcement in the recovery process. What a smart idea! And it’s only 13 bucks.

Shawn loves Ellen DeGeneres’ deal as the new face of CoverGirl cosmetics – She joins CoverGirl spokesmodels Drew Barrymore, Queen Latifah, Christie Brinkley, Keri Russell, Molly Sims and Rihanna as the newest face of the Brand.

Susan loves Evolution Wine – The May/June issue of Wilmington Magazine ran a small article on my favorite wine, Evolution # 9. It stated that the “Wilmington area is the No. 1 market per capita for the wine,” which is made in Oregon. I don’t know if it’s because the wine pairs so well with seafood and the coast or if Sokol Blosser hit a home run with marketing, but it’s amazing what one small group of enthusiasts can do for a brand.
