On the first day I learned that I was not the only advertising/PR genius that had landed a summer internship at Talk PR. There were two of us, so our title became “co-intern” instead of the original “intern.” I didn’t mind sharing the spotlight (or the workload) and I looked forward to meeting my fellow unpaid co-worker. The two of us had the same office (or cave, as it is called), shared the same computer, had the same email address and worked for the same people. Yet in the month and a half that we worked together, we never met. Our different schedules allowed us to work on different days, which meant I couldn’t personally thank her for posting a blog I didn’t have time to finish or helping our co-workers with projects that I couldn’t get to.
Last week I learned that my title was reverting back to its shorter form because my other half was leaving. I must admit that my first reaction was disappointment since I knew I wouldn’t be able to see her before she left Talk PR for good. I am, however, extremely excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for this ambitious intern. She will be making history in Virginia for the remainder of the summer as she campaigns for Barack Obama as he strives to become the 44th president of the United States.
While my former co-intern is attempting to change the face of America, I will be here at Talk PR learning and growing as a student of advertising. I wish her all the luck in the world and I hope she knows that she will be missed in this hot pink office.
